Urban Heath (A.K.A. Nick) Is my uncle and role modle. A simple man who lived a simple and difficult life was one of the youngest from a family of eight kids. Most of the boys in the family took up learning one or more instruments in order to entertain them selfs in a time when money was short and resources few. All these boys were self taught. None could read a lick of music. Together they formed what was commenly refered to in those days as the family band. Two played fiddles, one the banjo, and a couple the guitars.

Nick is a guitar player and a singer. He has a talent for writting poetry and songs, an incredible sense of humor and a skill of telling stories. All of this made him seem like the perfect entertainer and the one I longed to emulate. He showed me how to play guitar and taught me his secrets of how to make a good song sound great. He could write a humorus, lap slapping tune about everyday life events or a touching funeral song that would leave not a dry eye in the room.

Over the last few years Nick was diagnosed with cancer and has fought that last great battle for his health. I last saw him a few months back. We sat down and played a few tunes, one of which was the song below called Green Fields. Nick wrote this song about the simple pleasures of growing up and life in the pairie country of Manitoba, Canada. I recorded this song in tribute to him. I think it's one of his best. May you be feeling well soon Nick.
