I Never Go Around Mirrors

The other day I was cruising the net when I came across an old YouTube video of Lefty Frizzell performing an old song I had never heard before called "I Never Go Around Mirrors". The title caught my eye right away and When I heard Lefty Sing it I fell in love with the tune right away. I often show these tunes off to my friends referring to them as a new song for me. Right away someone will declare that it is hardly a 'NEW' song. Of course I don't mean that it was just put out on the air in recent years. What I actually mean by this is that it has only recently come to my attention and has become a new part of my already extensive repertoire.

I like to think that, in spite of the large number of songs I have learned by heart, each one is special enough to have earned their place in my catalogue. I like to think that others might find them just as exciting as I do so I often perform them for my friends to see if I can get them to take an interest in performing them too. "I Never Go Around Mirrors", written by Sanger D. Shafer & Lefty Frizzell, is one of those old style bar room blues songs that shows exactly why this format became so popular. Of course Lefty Frizzell's classic interpretation of this number was in, no small way, a major contributor to the fact that this tune became so well known in the country music industry and if you listen to my cover you can't help but hear Lefty's influence in my interpretation as well.
