A song of my own.

Posted 03-15-2011 at 05:47 PM by Bishop

I have never considered myself a song writer because writing a song comes so hard to me. Some songs take years for me to write and then fine tune. One or two came ove weeks or days but most never get completed.

I hear about other amatures like me who have writen dozens of songs and I envy the talent they must have. To write so many original works on any given subjects seem like a gift I'll never have.

That having been said, I have writen one or two songs I consider decent and the following is one of them.

I was playing around with old country standards increasing the tempo and trying them along a more rock-a-billy style and was suprised how you could re-vitalize a tired old stanard into something people today would actualy listen to. That's when I decided to challenge myself.

I decided to take an old standard, that I hated so much that I'd sooner cut my right hand off then play in public, and make what I thought could be a top 50's hit from it.

I settled on Buffalo Gal. I mean 'Oh My God!' How could anybody have sang that seriously? Well I decided to keep the first few lines of the original lyrics as well as the first several stanzas of the music and use that as a core to build a romantic love song around.

To my amazement most of the song just fell together in just a few hours and after a couple days of tweeking the verse's and chorus I ended up with the Following piece called 'Dancing In the Light Of The Moon'. Actualy I think it's one of my best works and almost completely original at the end of the day.

Why don't take a listen and see what you think of 'Dancing In The Light Of The Moon'.
