Poor or insufficient performance feedback is the number one cause of deficient performance according to a study conducted by the Conference Board. Itís like a poor diet, there donít seem to be any immediate consequences, then seemingly before you know it, lethargy, heartburn and high blood pressure are the result. Itís not intentional, but thatís kind of the point.

The environment we create as leaders is, in large part, a reflection of the things we value and that motivate us. Often times, task oriented, results driven leaders donít necessarily need or place value on recognition and feedback or acknowledgement, because they themselves donít need it. Donít assume others are built the same way. If you havenít or donít provide feedback to your team on a consistent basis, perhaps itís time to reevaluate if this aspect of your leadership deserves more attention and intention.
