4:00am, Sunday, March 21st. I woke up just before the alarm clock went off. Coffee and Oatmeal. 6:00am - At Aquatic Park in San Francisco to get my bib. More coffee at Starbucks. Being my first race in 35 years, my biggest decision is whether or not to run in my warm up or just shorts and running shirt - rain was not on the forecast. It was cold at that time and dark, but the sun was possibly going to show. We were bussed from San Francisco over to Sausalito where the race started, so I had to decide...

The Golden Great Lane by Jon Paine - Recent Marathon Training

Posted 02-28-2010 at 08:54 PM by Paine's Golden Great Lane

Long Run, Saturday, February 27, 2010 - I've been staving off a pulled hamstring since the time trials, and icing has significantly helped. I could not complete the track workout (880, 660, 440, 200 at the I Pace) due to this injury claim, but iced on Thursday and Friday. Saturday's run was upped to 5 miles for our group, 7 miles for the more advanced pace group. This was all hills, starting at Baker Beach (ahh, another fabulous view of the Golden Gate Bridge from there). We had two pacers in the...

The Golden Great Lane by Jon Paine - Recent Marathon Training

Posted 02-18-2010 at 10:59 PM by Paine's Golden Great Lane

I've skipped the last few sessions logging in, so I'm going to catch up with only the brief highlights.
Wednesday Track Workout - Feb. 17 - So the word for last night's track workout is - 10.46 & "Awesome". We ran our first Time Trials for a one mile run. We were asked to run at the "Threshold Pace". I decided to still pace myself (and ran with a partner who is at my pace) and we keep a nice steady pace, but ran just under the edge of threshold. When we finished I...

The Golden Great Lane by Jon Paine - Saturday Long Run, Feb. 6, 2010

Posted 02-06-2010 at 08:12 PM by Paine's Golden Great Lane

Today's "long run" for training was 4.3 miles. Not the scenic "Embarcadero" runs we did on Monday, but rather some seedier parts of SF. Good to get a mix in. We hit some hills. I felt good, warmed up well, and feeling the muscles in my legs working this time, especially on the hills. The rain held off just long enough for us to do the run, so it was comfortable. The groups are getting larger every training session. This was the biggest yet for a Saturday. I'm anxious now to do...
