File a Flight Plan

One of the most significant benefits I received in the process of becoming a private pilot was the value of planning. Flight training requires an understanding of not only the aerodynamics of flight but also the impact of weather, payloads, fuel consumption, etc. on the desired outcome – arriving at your destination in one piece!

How hard is it really? Communication, or the lack of effective communication, underlies many of our difficulties in our professional and personal lives. While on the surface, communication is a natural and often engaged in activity, we do a disservice to others and ourselves when we expect things of the recipient based upon an assumption that others know, or should know, what we intended.

“Ignore them and they’ll go away” is a sign in my brothers dental office (@BradWilliamsDDS). His reference is obviously to teeth; however, the same principal applies to employees. It would seem that often in business, the process of employee evaluation and feedback is overlooked and attributed to an assumption that the employee knows what the manager thinks of their performance – I would contend that more often than not, this is inaccurate.
