A lovely ballad I heard one day on CBC radio and fell in love with, 'Tickle Cove Pond' is an East Coast ballad about a man who risked the ice road too late in the spring and nearly lost his mare in the Pond.

Like all great ballads it has wonderful lyrics...

Midnight on the Water

Posted 02-10-2014 at 09:29 PM by Bishop (Elger's Recording Studio)

composed by Luke Thomasson

One of the most beautiful violin tunes I have ever heard is an old number called 'Midnight on the Water' composed by Luke Thomasson. The recording that I first heard this song in was a tune that actually combined both 'Midnight on the Water' and ‘Bonaparte’s Retreat’ by the Piney Creek Weasels. This recording, however, is strictly 'Midnight on the Water'. I hope you enjoy this version.

Some years ago I had the pleasure of sitting down with an old fiddle player I knew and I picked out a fiddle tune that had been running through my brain for as long as I could remember. When I finished he said that it was likely one of two possible tunes. Either it was 'Believe Me, if All Those Endearing Young Charms' or another tune he named, the title of which I can no longer...

I guess you could say that I have a thing about traditional music. Even the old English folk ballids Catch my ear and turn me around sometimes. This Folk tune dates back, in the music at least, to old England although I Can't find any form information about it's writer or writers. All I know is that this cover is based on the Laurie Lewis version And I can't seem to get it out of my head. This may happen to you if you...

Of late, over there, on the other side of the great pond The Scotts have been talking about severing all ties to Great Britain. They already have a parlement and government of thier own and they wish, no longer, to be a part of the Brittish Isles, but to be recognized as Scottland alone.
As a Canadian I can understand this as we recieved our independance well over a 100 years ago and have never regretted...
