Although, perhaps not favored by the general public because it is a sort of protest song, Tennessee Ernie Ford's 'Sixteen Tons' is just my kind of story. It tells of the hard people and life of that was mining in the early years of the American Industrial Age. Besides having great lyrics and music it's story carries a strong lesson about the harshness that is the life of mining.

Stan Rogers was a Canadien Folk artist that wrote many very fine songs like this one. 'The North-west Passage' was a quest that was in many ways fruitless and costly in both lives and resorces, but it resulted in the mapping of vast tracts of Canada through the arctic, prairies and mountans. Please take the time to listen to this cover and you will see why Stan was so beloved by many folk music fans durring his all too short career.

I guess you could say that I have a thing about traditional music. Even the old English folk ballids Catch my ear and turn me around sometimes. This Folk tune dates back, in the music at least, to old England although I Can't find any form information about it's writer or writers. All I know is that this cover is based on the Laurie Lewis version And I can't seem to get it out of my head. This may happen to you if you...

Here is a cautionary tale. I started this video with good intention and in the end messed it up supremely by trusting in inaccurate data sources. I scanned the internet to determin who wrote the lyrics for 'Hard Times Come Again No More' and several sites stated that Mary J. Blige had written it. I wondered about that but since several different sources confirmed it I took it as verbatim. WRONG......
