An old friend of mine used to always do a countrified version of the Bing Crosby classic, ‘I’ll be home for Christmas’. This is not a very long song. Written by the lyricist Kim Gannon and composer Walter Kent. Buck Ram, it has only one verse and one chorus or two verses and no chorus depending how you looked at it. As Christmas carols go it is very touching and a little sad as Christmas sometimes can be. When you are far from home and unable to return to your loved to celebrate the season, this is just the song for you.

My friend has passed on now but always, around this time of year, this tune comes to me and I think of him and wounder if he isn't with me after-all, in spirit at least.

What is missing here is a really nice instrumental. Can anybody out there take this single track and add and violin, mandolin or a nice guitar solo? I am afraid my skills as a guitarist fall way short for this task. I’d really appreciate hearing what you could do with it. Anyway, here’s a Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year from me.
